NEWS CENTER – Kurdish Language Institutions issued statements in several cities, calling on the public to participate in the “Hope and Freedom” rally to be held in Amed (Diyarbakır) on January 4.
The Democratic Platforms Institution will organize the “Hope and Freedom” rally on January 4 at Station Square in Amed, demanding the physical freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Kurdish Language Institutions also made public statements in various cities regarding the rally. Due to heavy snowfall disrupting transportation, a joint statement planned to be held in Amed was instead delivered separately in cities across Turkey and Kurdistan where the language institutions are based.
During the statements, the joint declaration was read aloud and calls were made for broad participation in the rally.
In statements delivered in Kurmancî and Kirmanckî dialect of Kurdish in cities such as Amed, Wan (Van), and Şirnex (Şırnak), it was emphasized that the construction of a democratic society and peace, under the leadership of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, is currently on the agenda. The statements underlined that peace requires the establishment of a democratic system and that this can only be achieved through Öcalan’s physical freedom.
The statements also stressed that, alongside Öcalan’s freedom, recognizing Kurdish as an official language and ensuring education in Kurdish are essential steps toward peace, and that the Kurdish people must continue their struggle to achieve these goals.
“It is well known that there is a direct connection between the physical freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and the attainment of Kurds’ most natural, national, and social rights. The freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan is the freedom of the Kurdish language and Kurdish values. Therefore, securing his physical freedom is imperative,” the statement said.
The statement concluded: “For this purpose, the ‘Hope and Freedom Rally’ will be held in Amed on January 4. We call on all Kurdish, democratic, and peace-seeking parties, institutions, and circles, especially Kurdish-friendly groups and our people to participate in the rally with great enthusiasm and to raise their voices for a free society and an honorable peace.”
The statements ended with applause.
