NEWS CENTRE - Iran Human Rights Organisation sent a letter to the UN, stating that the Ministry of Intelligence tried to legitimise the sentence by publishing a film about Warisheh Moradi and Pakshan Azizi.

 

Iran Human Rights Organisation sent a letter to the United Nations (UN) regarding human rights violations in the country. In the letter sent to the UN, it was stated that at least 12 Kurdish activists were detained in the cities of Sineh, Mahabad and Kermanshah for participating in the general strike against the ratification of the death sentence given to Warisheh Moradi and Pakshan Azizi in Rojhilat.

 

The organization also reported that the Ministry of Intelligence released a film about Warisheh Moradi and Pakshan Azizi in order to legitimise the sentence given to them. The organization's letter included the following statements: "Iranian forces detained nearly 69 civil society and environmental activists in Xozistan province. Iran wants to prevent protests with these arrests. In just 10 days (between 12-23 January 2025), 12 Azerbaijani activists were investigated."

 

Amir Reisiyan, the lawyer of political prisoner Pakshan Azizi announced on 8 January that the Iranian Supreme Court upheld the death sentence against Pakshan Azizi. Amir Reisiyan also reported that the document submitted by the defence was rejected by the court.

 

Her lawyers were also officially notified of the death sentence announced in Warisheh Moradi's trial. Reactions and protests against the confirmation of the death sentences against Pakshan Azizi and Warisheh Moradi continue.
