Joint statement after the meeting for cross-border operation

NEWS CENTER - In the Turkey-Iraq joint statement, it was stated that "all efforts will be put forward for historical success" for AKP Chair and President Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to Iraq in April.
 
Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler and MIT Undersecretary Ibrahim Kalın went to Baghdad to hold cooperation talks with Iraqi officials regarding the cross-border operation planned for Qandil. After the meeting, a joint final declaration was published.
 
In the declaration, it was stated that "all efforts will be put forward for the historical success" of AKP Chair and President Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to Iraq in April after 12 years. Erdoğan said: "Hopefully, this summer, we will permanently resolve the issue regarding our Iraqi borders. We will create a 30-40 kilometer deep security corridor along the Iraq-Syria borders."
 
OPERATION PLAN
 
The declaration said: "It has been decided to establish Joint Standing Committees that will work exclusively in the fields of counter-terrorism, trade, agriculture, energy, water, health and transportation." Regarding the operation planned to be carried out in Medya Defense Areas, it was argued that "PKK poses a security threat to Turkey and Iraq". The statement said: "The parties consulted on the measures to be taken against the organizations and their extensions that target Turkey using Iraqi territory."
 
The statement, which stated that Israel's attacks on Gaza were also discussed, included the following statement: "The parties have confirmed their strong will to support the Palestinian cause. The parties agreed to continue the negotiations in a regular and uninterrupted manner within the framework of the envisaged contact mechanisms."
