ANKARA - The ISIS member who is a citizen of the US has been stuck in the border area after Greece refused to take him.

The Ministry of Interior has released a statement on the ISIS member who was extradited from Turkey on November 11 and has been stranded in the buffer zone between Turkey and Greece since then.

"Legal process has started for repatriation of the US citizen foreign terrorist waiting in Turkey-Greece buffer zone after the US guaranteed that it will allow him to enter the country and draw up a travel document for him," said the statement, which came a day after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's meeting with his US counterpart Donald Trump in Washington.

Trump previously stated that Turkey would be responsible for the captured ISIS members in northern Syria after it launched a military operation into the region. He also said that the US will not anymore "feed" the ISIS members whom the European countries refuse to take.

Turkey announced Monday (November 11) that it has begun the repatriation of ISIS members.

Turkey has so far deported 7,500 ISIS members and there are currently 1,149 ISIS members in prisons in Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated early November.

During the Syrian war, more than 40 thousand people from numerous countries joined ISIS, according to the UN.
