ISTANBUL - Abdullah Öcalan has been given a new 6-month ban on lawyer visits. Asrin Law Office will apply to the Constitutional Court against the decision.

PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and prisoners Ömer Hayri Konar, Veysi Aktaş and Hamili Yıldırım in İmralı have been given a new 6-month ban on lawyer visits.

Lawyers of Asrin Law Office applied to Bursa 2nd Execution Judgeship with the demand of meeting with Abdullah Öcalan and learned that a new 6-month ban on lawyer visits was issued for their clients on November 6. The lawyers were not informed about the reason for the ban.

Appeals against the decision were rejected by the Bursa High Criminal Court. Lawyers will apply to the Constitutional Court (AYM) against the ban.

AT LEAST 14 LAWYER VISIT BANS IN 8 YEARS

Abdullah Öcalan was last banned from seeing his lawyer for 6 months on May 3, 2024. Öcalan's appeal to a higher court against the ban was similarly rejected, with a request to be provided with the reason for the ban and a copy of the file.

In July 2016, the ban was imposed during the State of Emergency and continued until February 2018. After this date, lawyer visits started to be banned for 6-month periods. With the latest ban, Abdullah Öcalan has been banned from seeing his lawyer at least 14 times in the last 8 years.

Similar ban orders also prevent family visits.
