AMED - Protesting the murder of Gulistan Tara and Hêro Bahadîn, TJA said: “The Free Press workers who pursue the truth will not leave the pen of their friends on the ground and will reveal the truth under all circumstances.”

The Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA) made a statement for journalists Gülistan Tara and Hêro Bahadîn, who were killed in Turkey's UCAV attack on August 23 in Seyîdsadik district of Sulaymaniyah in the Federated Kurdistan Region. The statement made in front of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Amed (Diyarbakır) Provincial Organization was attended by DEM Party Amed MP Serhat Eren, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Women's Assembly Spokesperson Berivan Bahçeci and many people.

Speaking at the statement where the banner “Dengê çapameniya azad nayê qudkirin (Free Press cannot be silenced)” was unfurled, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Provincial Co-Chair Sultan Yaray said: “No one has the right to silence the press. The system is carrying out its attacks against Kurds everywhere. This massacre was carried out under the leadership of AKP-MHP in cooperation with KDP. We condemn these attacks. Free Press does not end with massacres.”

Speaking next, DEM Party Amed Deputy Provincial Co-Chair Necla Korkmaz said: “We condemn the massacre of Kurdish women journalists working for the Free Press. Since the AKP-MHP fascist bloc cannot integrate into the world political system, it constantly creates enemies and carries out attack policies. AKP-MHP wants to realize their Neo-Ottomanism dreams with these attacks. The anti-Kurdish AKP-MHP regime, with its colonialist and expansionist policies, puts forward a policy of eliminating the Kurdish people's policy of living together with their own status in four parts. The people of Kurdistan have never accepted this and will never accept it. The KDP must immediately stop being a partner in these crimes.”

'FREE PRESS CANNOT BE SILENCED'

Stating that the misogynist AKP-MHP regime targeted the Kurdish people and women's gains with attacks in four parts of Kurdistan, Korkmaz said: “Our journalist comrade Nagihan Akarsel was murdered in Sulaymaniyah as a result of these attacks. The aim is to silence the Free Press and prevent the war crimes in Kurdistan from reaching the world public opinion. But it must be known that Free Press workers who pursue the truth will not leave the pen of their friends on the ground and will reveal the truth under all circumstances.”

Throughout the statement, the police intervention was protested with the slogans “Free Press cannot be silenced” and “Jin, jiyan, azadî (Women, life, freedom)”. When the police prevented the press workers, DEM Party's Eren took footage with his cell phone.

The statement ended with slogans and a sit-in protest.
