Penalty request for journalist Müftüoğlu

AMED - The prosecutor, who announced his opinion in the case where DFG Co-Chair Dicle Müftüoğlu was tried, asked for punishment on the allegation of "membership in a terrorist organisation".
 
The 4th hearing of the case against Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) Co-chair and Mezopotamya Agency (MA) editor Dicle Müftüoğlu was held at Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court. Müftüoğlu, who was released on February 29, 2024 after 11 months of imprisonment, is being tried on charges of "being a member of a terrorist organization" and "establishing and managing a terrorist organization".
 
Müftüoğlu and her lawyer Resul Temur were present at the hearing today. DFG, Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA), Human Rights Watch (HRW) Turkey Researcher Emma Sinclair-Webb, DİSK Basın-İş Amed Regional Representative Hakkı Boltan, lawyer Ezio Menzıone from Norwegian PEN, as well as many journalists attended the hearing.  
 
Müftüoğlu said that she repeated her previous defenses. The prosecution then announced its opinion and requested penalty for Müftüoğlu on the allegation of "membership in a terrorist organisation".
 
Müftüoğlu requested additional time for defense against the opinion. Lawyer Temur said that the evidence brought by the court should be discussed and an opinion should be presented based on this evidence.
Temur requested that the evidence be discussed in line with the Supreme Court decisions. Temur requested that the international ban on her client, who was engaged in journalistic activities, be lifted.
 
The court postponed the hearing to October 24 for defense against the opinion. The judicial control of the travel ban has not been lifted.
