ISTANBUL - The letters written by prisoners Ronahi Sırdaş and Gülistan Yılmaz to be sent to Imrali Prison were not sent due to "sentences expressing loyalty to Abdullah Öcalan".
The letters sent by Ronahi Sırdaş and Gülistan Yılmaz, who are held in Kayseri Women's Closed Prison, to PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and Ömer Hayri Konar, who are under aggravated isolation in Imrali Type F High Security Prison, were found "objectionable". It was decided that the letters that the Prison Letter Reading Commission found "objectionable" would not be sent by the disciplinary board.
LETTER SENT TO ABDULLAH ÖCALAN
The letter sent by prisoner Ronahi Sırdaş to Abdullah Öcalan was not sent by the board on the grounds of "discourses indicating that she did not break away from the terror organization", "sentences stating his loyalty to Abdullah Öcalan".
The part found "objectionable" in the first three paragraphs of the first page of the two-page letter that Sırdaş sent to Abdullah Öcalan under the title "Companion of the Blue" is as follows: "... I embrace you tightly with the longing created by meaning. I greet you with love. I wish you to be well and healthy in every respect. My dear comrade, we have not heard any news from you and other comrades for a long time. Therefore, we are curious about your situation and health in every aspect, and we are waiting for news from all of you. While we wait for this, we make an effort to feel you with our hearts. We are generally good and in good morale. We have been in actual resistance since November 27. Of course, we try to protect our soul and health. But current impossibilities oblige us to actual resistance. As you have always stated, we cannot be more creative or develop ways or methods under these conditions. We are deeply embarrassed by this."
THE COURT FOUND SIRDAŞ RIGHT
Sırdaş appealed against the decision to Kayseri 1st Execution Judgeship. The court found Sırdaş's objection appropriate. In the reasoned decision of the court, which is open to objection, it was stated: "When the legislative provisions and the convict's request are evaluated together, it is understood that in the examination of the letter made by the chair of the disciplinary board of the convict, it is not clear whether the entire letter has been examined or not, therefore the meaning derived from a sentence may be different when the whole letter is taken into consideration. It was decided that her request would be accepted and sent to the relevant enforcement institution for re-evaluation."
LETTER SENT TO ÖMER HAYRİ KONAR
While the 2-page letter sent by prisoner Gülistan Yılmaz to Ömer Hayri Konar was deemed "objectionable" by the reading commission, the disciplinary board decided not to send the letter on the grounds that "intra-organizational relations are wanted to be kept alive, there are sentences declaring loyalty to the terror organization and it clearly emphasizes 'us'".
