NEWS CENTER - Stating that they will end their hunger strike on April 4, political prisoners announced that they will continue their actions with "boycotts of courts, family visits and phone calls."

Prisoners who started a hunger strike in prisons on November 27, 2023 for the physical freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the solution of the Kurdish issue made a new statement about their actions. In the statement made on behalf of the PKK and PAJK prisoners in the Fırat News Agency (ANF), pointing to April 4, the birthday of PKK Leader Ocalan, and said: "Our hunger strike action has started as of April 4, the birthday of our Leader (Ocalan) It has shown the need to evolve to a new stage. As prisoners, our decision to boycott the colonial courts, whose racist, discriminatory and fascist features are widely exposed, and which do not even recognize their own laws when it comes to the Kurdish reality, and not to go on weekly phone calls and family visits, was shaped as a result of this need."

DECISION NOT TO MAKE PHONE AND FAMILY VISITS

In the statement, it was emphasized that demanding Abdullah Ocalan's physical freedom means "demanding freedom, equality and democracy for all peoples" and said: " Attributing such a meaning to our Leader's April 4th birthday and making it the starting point of new beginnings and breaking new ground in the line of resistance, rebellion and construction will be the clearest expression of loyalty to Leader Apo. Since we say that Leader Apo's freedom is the freedom of the people, then we have to know that the isolation imposed on our Leader is essentially a handcuff to the free, equal and democratic unity of our people, their spirit of peaceful cooperation and solidarity, and their desire to complete each other. All our people, especially our families, should know that with this awareness, we have decided not to make phone calls or family visits. Every human being is expected to have the emotion and meaning to understand what it means to not be able to reach, see, touch or hear a loved one."

In the statement, it was stated that the rotating hunger strike will end on April 4, and PKK Leader Ocalan's birthday was celebrated. The statement said: "We want it to be known that, starting from April 4, we will continue our 'Freedom for Leader Apo, Democratic Solution to the Kurdish Issue' move with boycotts of courts, family visits and phone calls, with the slogan 'Living in the same conditions as our Leader'."

The statement continued with a call to the public to "embrace the prisoners' resistance."
