Violations of the rights of ill prisoners in prisons are increasing. Suat Oguz and Mehmet Tiryaki, ill prisoners in Tokat Type T Closed Prison, were forced to undergo a mouth search. According to the families, prisoners who refused to accept the practice were not given their medication and were not taken to hospital.
Suat Oğuz was arrested after being detained in Sêrt (Siirt) 13 years ago and was sentenced to life imprisonment. It is learned that Oguz has hepatitis B (jaundice), a herniated disc in 4 places and a problem in his lungs due to being infected with COVID-19 in prison.
Father Rıfat Oguz stated that his son was not referred to a hospital because he rejected to be searched inside his mouth, and added that other prisoners face similar situations like his son.
Serkan Tiryaki, brother of prisoner Mehmet Tiryaki, said that his brother had shrapnel in his head and was struggling with respiratory diseases, and added, "My brother, like other prisoners, was given a 3-month visit ban because he rejected the mouth search."
