ANKARA - The release of 32-year prisoner Nedim Yılmaz from Bolu Type F Closed Prison has been prevented for the 7th time.

The release of Bolu Type F Closed Prison prisoner Nedim Yılmaz was prevented for the 7th time with the decision of the Administration and Observation Board. Yılmaz, who has been imprisoned for 32 years, was first prevented from being released 4 days before his release on 25 July 2023. Yılmaz was prevented from being released on the grounds that he is not in "good behaviour" and he appealed against this first decision. Bolu Execution Judgeship rejected the objection. Bolu 2nd High Criminal Court, which made an application afterwards, decided in the same scope.

POSTPONED FOR THE 7TH TIME

Yılmaz's release was prevented 6 times after this decision. Most recently, the board convened on 20 February to consider Yılmaz's release. However, the board did not invite Yılmaz to the meeting. The Board ruled in Yılmaz's absence, preventing his release for the 7th time for the same reason.

Nevroz Uysal Aslan, Şirnex (Şırnak) MP of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), who appealed this decision to the Parliamentary Human Rights Investigation Commission, stated that the decisions were not justified and were taken arbitrarily. In the application, Nevroz Uysal Aslan emphasised that the allegations were baseless and stated that Yılmaz was prevented from being released even when he was in "good behaviour".

Nevroz Uysal Aslan pointed out that the prisoners' freedom was being usurped and demanded that the commission examine the reasons given for not releasing Yılmaz and the other prisoners. Nevroz Uysal Aslan also asked the commission to visit the prison.

Nevroz Uysal Aslan also submitted a parliamentary question to the Presidency of the Parliament with the demand that Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç answer. Nevroz Uysal Aslan also asked why the release was postponed, whether Yılmaz was present at the meeting, and how many of the board members who made the decision were present at the meeting. Nevroz Uysal Aslan also pointed to the decisions taken by the Administrative and Observation Boards and asked whether the ministry was working to abolish these boards.
