NEWS CENTER - The bodies of 41 Yazidis murdered by ISIS were buried in a ceremony held in Shengal.
Thousands of Yazidis were massacred in the massacres carried out by ISIS in Shengal on August 3, 2014, and thousands of Yazidi women were kidnapped and sold in slave markets. Thousands of massacred Yazidis were buried in mass graves by ISIS. There are 92 mass graves identified in Shengal so far.
790 UNIDENTIFIED FUNERALS
Iraq started to work on opening mass graves on March 15, 2019, under the supervision of the United Nations. However, only 55 mass graves have been opened so far. The bones of 1,032 murdered citizens were found in the opened mass graves. Among the citizens whose bones were found, Iraq was able to deliver the bodies of 242 Yazidi citizens, whose identities were confirmed through DNA testing, to their families. There are bodies of 790 citizens in the Baghdad Forensic Medicine Institute, whose identities are expected to be clarified by taking a DNA test.
41 PEOPLE WERE BURIED
According to the news in Rojnews, the bodies of 41 citizens, whose DNA tests were completed and whose identities were clarified, were buried with another ceremony in Shengal today. Executives and members of Shengal Autonomous Administration and many Yazidi citizens attended the funerals in three separate ceremonies held in the villages of Qinê, Herdan and Koço.
