DİYARBAKIR – Mesut Çelebi, who was released from Rize Type E Closed Prison after 31 years, said: “After 31 years, I am physically free in my country, with my people and my family. Only the field of resistance has changed for us."
Mesut Çelebi, who was imprisoned in Rize Type E Closed Prison, was released after 31 years. Çelebi, who was taken into custody on June 12, 1992 in Wan, was given a life sentence by the State Security Court, where he was later taken out, on charges of "destroying the unity and integrity of the state". Çelebi, who is on the Human Rights Association's (İHD) ill Prisoner List, remained in prisons in Wan(Van), Mûş(Muş), Erzirom(Erzurum), Yozgat, Amed(Diyarbakır) and Rize throughout his arrest.
'WE WERE MENTALLY FREE'
Çelebi was released from the Rize Type E Closed Prison where he was held and came to Amed, his hometown today. Çelebi, who was greeted with applause and bells by his family members and relatives in front of his house in Rezan district, shared his feelings with the following words: “After 31 years, I am physically free in my country with my people and my family. We are happy in every way. Only our field of resistance has changed for us. Although we were physically imprisoned, we were free mentally.”
