Ankara Bar Association has published a statement regarding the sentences handed to the lawyers, including lawyer Selçuk Kozağaçlı, in the Contemporary Lawyers Association (ÇHD) case at the Istanbul 18th High Criminal Court. In the statement, it was emphasized that the immunity of defense was targeted with sentences and the case aimed to prevent lawyers from performing their professional activities.
In the statement, the following statements were made: “On the one hand, the right to a fair trial has been violated by incomplete examination, erroneous evaluation of the evidence and the provision established without any doubt, without any conclusive and convincing evidence; On the other hand, long periods of detention, which turned into conviction, and the trial process, which was carried out in a way that interfered with the right to life and the most basic procedural rules were disregarded, clearly revealed the unlawfulness. As the Ankara Bar Association, we promise that we will work with all our strength to ensure that the days when the defense is not forced to defend itself."
