Journalists in Northern and Eastern Syria condemned the arrest of 9 reporters working in the Kurdish press in Ankara. Journalists speaking to the Hawar News Agency (ANHA) stated that the history of Turkey is full of press violations. Drawing attention to the role of the press in exposing the crimes of oppressive regimes, Aryan Channel correspondent Evîn Îbrahim said: “The Turkish state wants to hide the truth by silencing journalists. The Turkish state sees the Free Press as a threat to its dirty policies, and therefore the state arrests and tortures journalists.”
Condemning the arrest of journalists, Ronahî TV's Qamishlo reporter Elî Xidêr said: "The truth cannot be covered up by arresting journalists. We call for solidarity with journalists and human rights organisations."
