URFA - Xosnav Ata, who has been staging a sit-in protest in front of the OPCW for 80 days for his two nieces killed in Turkey's chemical attacks, said, "We can only make our voices heard through resistance."

Turkey's use of chemical weapons continues in the attacks launched on April 17 against the Zap, Metîna and Avaşîn regions of the Federated Kurdistan Region in partnership with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). According to the People's Defense Center (HSM) statement on October 18, published in the Fırat News Agency (ANF), Turkey used 2,467 banned bombs and chemical weapons between April 14 and October 14. It was stated that 17 HPG members lost their lives as a result of it. ANF also published the videos of 2 HPG members who died after being exposed to chemical weapons.

SIT-IN CONTINUES FOR 80 DAYS IN FRONT OF OPCW

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), in The Hague, Netherlands, which ignores Turkey's use of chemicals by simply answering the questions asked by journalists that they are "watching closely" but they can't do anything before the member states ask them to.

Xosnav Ata, who has been staging a sit-in protest in front of the OPCW for his nieces, Mihriban and Gülperin Ata, who have been killed by chemical weapons on different dates since August 5, reacted to the silence of international institutions. Ata, who has been fighting for justice in front of the OPCW building for 80 days, said, "We have been waiting for the OPCW to give an answer for so long. However, no action has been taken so far. It seems that this building operates in the shadow of hegemonic powers. The OPCW needs to work on its own against the signatory states on the use of chemical weapons."

Underlining that OPCW works in cooperation with 189 countries that have signed the "Chemical Weapons Convention" that prohibits the use of chemical weapons, Ata pointed that this is the reason for the silence. Ata said, “While this silence continues, the identities of 17 HPG members who were killed with chemicals were announced. Our call is to European countries and countries that are members of NATO. Stop selling chemical poisons to Turkey. Stop the killing of Kurdish children with chemical weapons."

'WE CAN BE HEARD WITH OUR RESISTANCE'

Stating that he will continue the sit-in until he receives a response from the OPCW, Ata addressed the Kurdish people and said, "We cannot remain silent and stay in our homes against chemical attacks. We must protest this wherever we are until our voices are heard by the OPCW and all other institutions. Enough is enough. Wherever they are, Kurds need to raise their voices against this atrocity. We can only be heard through resistance."
