DİYARBAKIR - Speaking at the 1 May celebration attended by thousands of workers and laborers in Diyarbakır, HDP MP Dersim Dağ, said that those who betray and pursue war policies will lose.
May 1 was celebrated in istasyon Square with the slogan "Together We Will Change", under the leadership of the Confederation of Public Workers' Unions (KESK) Diyarbakır Branches Platform, the Chamber of Physicians, the Revolutionary Trade Unions Confederation (DİSK) Regional Representative and the Union of Turkish Engineers and Architects Union (TMMOB) Provincial Coordination Board.
'WE ARE MILLIONS'
Speaking at the rally, Organising Committee Chairperson Kamuran Taş stated that they want a livable country for the workers and poor peoples. Taş said, "We want a country where people can live with dignity, not a country workers die in inhumane conditions while working without any security. We want a country where the state officials follow their own laws. We are the ones who create life in these cities. We are the workers who will re-establish the democracy that the oppressive regime has destroyed. We will change this order, which condemns us to unemployment, war, poverty and insecurity. We believe that there is a world without war and exploitation. We will change this system together. We say enough is enough. Despite all the pressures, we know the workers who did not give up their resistance. We are many, we are millions, we will see good days.”
WOMEN ARE TARGETED
Gönül Kural, a member of KESK Central Executice Board, drew attention to the Kurdish question and said, “They want to make the Kurdish question left unresolved and make their rule permanent. Gender inequality is deepening. The workforce burdened on women's shoulder is getting heavier. Violence against women is on the rise. Women are being targeted. As if these were not enough, they are abolishing the Istanbul Convention. We oppose anti-labor policies. We want a country where labor equality, freedom and democracy prevail. We want a country where there are no wars, where the Kurdish question is solved, where torture in prisons ends. We want a country where violence against women ends. Together, we will achieve these."
'WE WILL CHANGE THIS SYSTEM'
TTB Central Council member Halis Yerlikaya stated that health policies that are not in favor of science, but in favor of capital is killing people, and said, “Thousands of people died from Covid due to incompetent policies that try to manage perception, not the pandemic. Capital was protected during the pandemic, not the people. We are struggling to live like humans in dignity. We will continue to shout, 'We are the labor, the word is ours, the health is all of us'. We know that the imposed order of exploitation is not our destiny. We have hope and we can change this exploitation system."
RESISTANCE WILL END THE AKP
HDP Diyarbakır MP Dersim Dağ noted that the struggle of the workers is growing day by day and said, “The year 2022 has been a year of resistance for the workers. The workers took to the streets and demanded their rights. They said no to the policies of the government. The resistance of the workers have won. It is true that AKP-MP fascism is deepening day by day. However, resistance to this fascism is growing as well. The government carries out policies not for the workers, but for themselves and their supporters. The workers put up a great resistance by taking to the streets for their exploited labor. The AKP-MHP is attacking workers, women, peoples and youth in order to maintain their rule. The resistance that started under the leadership of women will bring the end of AKP and MHP.”
KURDS WILL NOT FORGIVE KDP'S BETRAYAL
Noting that the AKP-MHP maintains its reign through war policies, Dağ said: “War policies are carried out in all areas. As the isolation deepened in Imrali, policies of war against women, youth and the people came into play. As the isolation intensified, trustees were appointed to the will of the people, workers were fired, politicians who pursued peace and democracy were detained and arrested. These war policies continue today. Enmity against the Kurdish people is carried out not only in Diyarbakir, Istanbul and Ankara, but all over Turkey. The government used war policies to avoid the crisis. Recently, we have seen how it has attacked the Kurdish people in cooperation with the KDP. We know very well the hostility of the AKP-MHP towards Kurds. Those who say we are carrying out an operation want to massacre the Kurds, and they want to occupy Bashur. AKP-MHP wants to maintain its power over Kurdish blood. No Kurdish party should be an instrument of these dirty policies. If a party becomes an instrument of this dirty policy, the Kurdish people will never forgive that party. The Kurdish people will never forgive betrayal, those who betray will lose. The KDP should not be tricked by the AKP. The Kurdish people do not want war. In no way will we allow the dirty war against the Kurds to succeed."
The 1 May rally ended after the music concert.
