İSTANBUL - Despite the 'ban on lawyers' imposed on Öcalan due to a disciplinary punishment has expired, the applications of the lawyers to see their clients are rejected.
There has been no news for more than a year from PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has been held under heavy isolation conditions in İmralı Type F High Security Prison. Öcalan had an "interrupted" phone call with his brother Mehmet Öcalan on March 25, 2021, and his lawyers last spoke to him on August 7, 2019.
While applications for lawyers and family visits made after these dates were not responded, disciplinary penalties were cited as the reason for the bans. On November 22, 2021, lawyers of Asrın Law Office applied to Bursa Execution Judgeship for an "immediate meeting" with the detainees Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş and Öcalan in İmralı. In their application, the lawyers demanded an end to the state of incommunicado.
However, the judgeship rejected the application for a lawyer's visit, citing the 6-month ban on lawyers' visits on Öcalan on October 12. The ban on lawyers, which was given on October 12, ended on April 22. However, Öcalan was not allowed to meet with his lawyers, despite the expiration of the “ban”, which was cited as the reason for the ban. There was no positive or negative response to the lawyers who applied for an interview on April 26.
