İZMİR - The court board accepted the indictment of Onur Gencer, who murdered Deniz Poyraz, without investigating the "powers behind it", and the first hearing, in which the murderer was protected, lasted 6 hours.

 

The first hearing of the trial of Onur Gencer, who carried out an armed attack against the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) İzmir Provincial Organization building and murdered party member Deniz Poyraz, was held at the İzmir 6th High Criminal Court. Deniz Poyraz's hearing was held the day after a new massacre attempt was made in the HDP district building in Istanbul's Bahçelievler. 

 

Hundreds of people, including lawyers, representatives of trade unions, women and non-governmental organizations from all over the country, attended the hearing. In addition to the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Turkish Workers' Party (TIP), two deputies from Denmark were among those who followed the hearing. 

 

THE STRONG STANCE OF MOTHER POYRAZ

 

One hour before the hearing began, the courthouse was filled with a crowd that came together with the slogans "Deniz Poyraz is immortal". The Peace Mothers took their place in front of the courthouse shouting the slogan "Şehit namirin" (Martyrs don't die) wearing white scarves. Mother Fehime Poyraz who is known with her strong stance, was once again there with her head high.

 

HUNDREDS WERE IN COURT FOR SOLIDARITY

 

After a press release in front of the court house, the crowd went to the court room however, even though the date of the hearing was determined from months ago, people were not allowed in court by the courthouse personnel who claimed that the court room was not ready. The hearing started 2 hours later than it was supposed to start and most of the people who came in solidarity and some lawyers were prevented from entering the court room.

 

THE RELAXED ATTITUDE OF THE MURDERER

 

The relaxed attitude of the murderer Gencer protected by soliders once again showed that there was 'someone powerful' behind him. So much so that, at the hearing, the report stating that the 3 soldiers on duty in Syria called Gencer on the day of the attack, that the person who took a taxi with Gencer and went to the luxury hotel was a civilian officer (technician) in Ankara Security Directorate, the murderer's relations with SADAT were not investigated, and the contents of the bag he carried on the day of the attack were not investigated. It has also been revealed that one of the digital materials found in the house of the perpetrator is missing and only 23 of the photos of 72 thousand 667 photos in his phone were included in the file and he was alone in each of those photos, which indicates that the other photos that were not included in the file might be of those who helped him organise the murder.

 

COURT BOARD STALLED THE HEARING

 

Overwhelmed by the reactions of the people in court, the court board stalled the hearing and sent the killer back to the prison in a haste, postponing the hearing to January 24.

 

BULDAN: HE IS AN ISIS MEMBER

 

The most striking detail in the hearing, which lasted for about 6 hours, was that HDP Co-Chair Pervin Buldan said, "This man was trained in Manbij and is a murderer. He is an ISIS member. You cannot be this relaxed about this. You can't be that calm. Treat him like the murderer he is". 

 

Buldan's reaction turned into anger at the murderer and those behind him, and people started shouting slogans "Şehit namirin" and "The murderers will be held accountable to the public".
