BATMAN - Batman Municipality Co-Mayor Songül Korkmaz, 7 councilors and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Batman Provincial Co-Chair Ömer Kulplu were detained before the Municipal Assembly Meeting.
Municipal Council meetings that have been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic began to be reorganized in Batman Municipality. The group, including Batman Municipality Co-Mayor Songül Korkmaz and members of the Council who wanted to attend the July Parliamentary Meeting, was prevented from entering the building.
9 PEOPLE DETAINED
The councilors who are also the members of Peoples' Democratic Party demanded to see an official document which says the meeting of the council cannot be held, but their demand was not accepted. In response, members of the council tried to enter the council building and were all detained. It was learned that among the detainees were Batman Municipality Co-Mayor Songül Korkmaz, councilors Şükran Çelebi, Gizem Oğurlu, İlkay Alagöz, Şehriban Aydın, Ayşe Önal, Recep Yargı, Şirin Şen and HDP Batman Provincial Co-chair Ömer Kulplu.
'WE WANTED A DOCUMENT, THEY DETAINED OUR FRIENDS'
Salih Çetinkaya, one of the councilors reminded that they are all elected members of the council and said, “We were not notified that our meeting would not be conducted. So we asked for a document, but they did not show us any official document. Our councilor friends were detained just because they wanted to enter the municipality building.
