Iranian regime executed two Iraqi prisoners

NEWS CENTRE - Iran secretly executed the Iraqis Ali Nader Al-Obeidi and Fadel Sheikh Karim on charges of “espionage”.

Iran secretly executed Iraqi nationals Ali Nader Al-Obeidi (27) and Fadel Sheikh Karim (29) at Kerec Central Prison on 6 April. The pair had previously been sentenced to death in a joint trial on charges of “espionage” on behalf of one of the Arab countries in the region.

The human rights organisation Hengaw stated that neither the families nor the lawyers had been informed, and that the executions had not yet been announced by official media outlets.

Hengaw condemned the imposition of the death penalty on foreign nationals based on vague allegations such as “espionage” without a fair trial, noting that this constituted “a clear violation of international treaties and the fundamental rights of the accused”.

Providing further details on the case, Hengaw revealed that the prisoners had been subjected to torture for 11 months at an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) detention centre before being transferred to the prison in Kerec in March.
