Journalists Kaplan and Mordeniz to be referred to court

ISTANBUL - Kurdish journalists Çağdaş Kaplan and Berçem Mordeniz, who have been detained for trying to film police violence in Greece, are expected to be referred to the courthouse.

Kurdish journalists Çağdaş Kaplan and Berçem Mordeniz, who filmed the moment when a person was taken into custody, handcuffed behind the back and beaten in Sytagma Square in Athens, the capital city of Greece, were detained. It was learned that both had press cards and were beaten by the police and taken to Acropolis Police Station. Journalists are ecpected to be referred to court today.
 
Journalist Kaplan sent a message to Newspaper Karınca and called out to international press organizations and asked for an attorney. Stating that they were both handcuffed behind the back, Kaplan said: "Those who witnessed the police violence were prevented from going to the station and testify. Kaplan told that the beating they suffered reflected to cameras.
 
Stating that Journalist Mordeniz suffers from asthma, Kaplan said: "Berçem's medicine and even water is not being given. There are no measures regarding the coronavirus outbreak. There are 30-40 people in here. We are being tortured. If we get the virus, Greek police will be responsible.  Greek police is torturing two journalists at Akropolis Police Station right now.
