NEWS CENTER — Mosul Governor Abdulqadir Dexîl has announced the discovery of three mass graves containing the remains of people killed by ISIS

Dexîl said the graves were located in the Hermat and Mişêrife districts and that excavation work has begun by relevant teams. He noted that the graves contain the remains of Peshmerga fighters, Yazidis and civilians from Mosul who were killed by ISIS around a decade ago.

He added that the presence of victims from different ethnic backgrounds in the mass graves underscores the scale of crimes against humanity committed by ISIS.

Dexîl said the local administration is supporting teams on the ground by meeting all logistical needs and that DNA testing will be carried out by the Mass Graves Directorate.

The remains recovered from the graves are expected to be buried following a funeral ceremony to be held in Mosul.
