NEWS CENTER – The Kurdish Women’s Union has launched a signature campaign targeting the United nations (UN) and international human rights organisations with the demand for a “fair and lasting solution to the Kurdish issue in Syria”.

 

The campaign text emphasised that the Kurdish people in Syria have been subjected to policies of denial and de-identification for decades and have been deprived of their fundamental civil and cultural rights. It is stated that this situation has directly contributed to the deepening of the crisis and instability in the country.

 

The statement draws attention to the fact that, despite the important roles Kurds have played in protecting civilians and maintaining social peace during the war in Syria, their political and legal status is not recognised in international documents. It was stated that the historical role played by Kurdish women in particular in the fight against terrorist organisations and in protecting society should not be overlooked.

 

In its appeal to the UN, the Kurdish Women's Union called for "support a democratic and just solution that guarantees constitutional recognition of the national, cultural, and political rights of the Kurdish people". It also demanded “protect human rights in Kurdish regions and prevent any violations or forced demographic changes".

 

The text also called on the UN and the Security Council to take urgent action to protect civilians, ensure the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and send international observers or a peacekeeping force if necessary.

 

The Kurdish Women's Union emphasised that ignoring the Kurdish issue threatens not only the rights of the Kurdish people but also the construction of a united Syria based on justice and peace.
