ISTANBUL - The first words of Mehmet Emin Ersoy, who was released after 30 years, were, "All our friends need to be outside in order to feel freedom."
Mehmet Emin Ersoy, who was detained in Îdir in 1994 and sentenced to life imprisonment by the State Security Court (DGM) on the charge of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the State", was released from Tekirdağ Type F Closed Prison after 30 years of captivity.
Many people, including his family, welcomed Ersoy in front of the prison.
'WE NEED TO THINK ABOUT OUR FRIENDS IN PRISON'
Speaking in front of the prison, Ersoy stated that he would not be free until all political prisoners were released and said: "The outside is like a closed box. In order to feel freedom, all our friends need to be outside. Only this is how we can feel freedom. A few of my friends were going to be evacuated along with me. The release of Ahmet Kaan Aslan was postponed for another 3 months without any reason. The public needs to think about our friends inside."
Then, Ersoy and his family set out for his hometown Idir (Iğdır).
