Prosecutor deemed DTK membership a crime! 2019-09-14 11:28:15 VAN - According to the indictment prepared for the 25 people taken under custody with home raids in Van last March, being a delegate in DTK was deemed to be a crime and a sentence upto 15 years was demanded for the 25 people. 25 people were detained in house raids in Van on 25 March 2019 on the grounds that they were members of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK). Eight of the detainees were arrested and 17 were released on condition of judicial control. The first indictment on 25 people taken into custody was returned to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office by the Van 5th Criminal Court on the grounds that it was procedurally incomplete. The revised indictment was accepted by Van 5th Criminal Court this time. While the 58 pages of the 80-page indictment consisted of the activities of DTK, 6 to 15 years of prison sentence was demanded for the 25 people.      While the founding purpose of DTK, its duties, and some words of PKK Leader Abdullah Ă–calan considered to be evidences of crime, the hunger strikes claimed to be organized by DTK. The fact that there are statements of anonymous witnesses claiming some people are DTK delegates attracted attention.    Prosecutor's Office wanted 5 people to be punished for 'making propaganda for an organization ' due to their social media shares. The first hearing of the trial where 25 people to be prosecuted will be held in Van 5th High Criminal Court on September 26.
