Demirtaş :We should be sensitive about the hunger strikes 2019-04-24 12:54:53 ANKARA - Former HDP Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş who is jailed pending trial, called on for sensitivity regarding the hunger strikes. Demirtaş condemned the attacks against the mothers in Gebze and attorneys in Ankara.   The hearing of People's Democratic Party former Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş is being held in Sincan Prison Campus 19th Criminal Court.   Demirtaş is attending the hearing via video conference (SEGBİS) from Edirne Type F Prison he is being kept at.   HDP Co-chair Pervin Buldan is monitoring the hearing.   Demirtaş started his defence after the identification process. Demirtaş who started his words by saluting the hunger strikers, said: "The hunger strikes continues in order to secure peace and democracy and for the dialogue to pervade. I salut all my friends on hunger strike and I am calling on to the public to be sensitive about the hunger strikes."   Demirtaş who reacted to the maltreatment towards the mothers who are doing a sit in in front of Gebze Prison to draw attention to their relatives on hunger strike, said: "I condemn the attacks to my mothers who are doing a sit in in front of the Gebze Prison for their children on hunger strike reminding that the tears of the mothers does not have a colour. These degrading treatments against our mothers is unacceptable.   Demirtaş also condemned the attack against the lawyers who were to present the report they prepared about the hunger strikes to the Ministry of Justice and said: "Police have intervened to the lawyers which some of them are following up on my case in Kızılay Square. I am saluting my lawyer friends and condemn the treatment of the police."   ABOUT THE CASE    142 years of prison sentence is requested for Demirtaş with the accusation of 'Establishing and managing an illegal organization' and 'Praising the crime and the criminal'. The case opened in Diyarbakır was moved to Ankara 19. th Criminal Court because of security reasons.
