Pakhshan Azizi's retrial request rejected for second time

	NEWS CENTER - The application for the retrial of journalist Pakhshan Azizi was rejected for the second time. 

	 

	Mazyar Tatayi, the lawyer of Kurdish journalist Pakhshan Azizi, who was sentenced to death in Iran, announced on his virtual media account that the application for retrial was rejected for the second time.

	 

	Mazyar Tatayi announced that the Iranian court, without examining the file of Pakhshan Azizi, described the defence of the lawyers as "inappropriate" and rejected the retrial request.

	 

	WHAT HAPPENED?

	 

	Kurdish journalist and activist Pakhshan Azizi was detained in Tehran on 4 August 2023. She was arrested on 11 December 2023 on charges of "armed action against the Iranian government". The Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced her to death on 23 July 2024. The verdict was upheld by the Supreme Judicial Council of Iran on 8 January 2025.
