People gather in front of Akdeniz Municipality

	MERSİN - People started to gather in front of the blockaded municipality building upon the detention of the co-mayors of Akdeniz Municipality.

	 

	DEM Party Akdeniz Municipality Co-Mayors Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and Nuriye Aslan's investigation file was confidentialised and restricted from seeing their lawyers, people started to gather in front of the municipality building.

	 

	Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Mersin Akdeniz Municipality co-mayors Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and Nuriye Arslan, as well as municipality council members Özgür Çağlar, Neslihan Oruç, Yakup Danış and Hikmet Bakırhan were detained in a house raid in the morning. The police blockaded the municipality building and announced that "a trustee had been appointed".

	 

	CONFIDENTIALITY ORDER ON THE FILE

	 

	It was stated that a confidentiality order was taken on the file and a 24-hour restriction on lawyer visits was imposed.

	 

	The masses gathered in different neighbourhoods in Akdeniz district and protested against the detentions and trustees with a march. People started to gather in front of the municipality building. 

	 

	DEM Party Mersin Provincial co-chair Bedriye Kuş stated that they will not let the trustee attempt pass and added, "We call on the people of Mersin to protect their will". 

	 

	People frequently chanted "Biji berxwedana gele Kurd (Long live resistance of the Kurdish People)" and "Thief trustee get out of the municipality" slogans in front of the municipality.
