Former HDP administratorm sentenced to 6 years and 8 months in prison 2021-02-26 16:09:15   DİYARBAKIR - Mehmet Sayit Demir, a former administrator of the HDP in Diyarbakır was sentenced to 6 years and 8 months in prison on two separate charges.   The final hearing of Mehmet Sayit Demir, former administrator at the Diyarbakır branch of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) was held at the 10th Heavy Penal Court on Friday.   Demir was accused of “resisting for a breach of official duty”, “participating in unlawful meetings and demonstrations in an unarmed state and not dispersing despite warnings”, “membership in a terrorist organization” and “spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization”.   Demir did not attend the hearing where his lawyer Berdan Acun was present. The court board repeated their opinion from the previous trial which Demir’s imprisonment for “membership in a terrorist organization” and acquittal from other charges.   Following lawyer Acun’s defence, the court sentenced Demir to 6 years and 3 months in prison on charges of “membership in a terrorist organization” and to an additional 5 months on charges of “contravening the Law. No 2911”. Demir was acquitted in relation to other accusations directed at him.
