HDP's Co-Mayor replaced with a trustee, arrested 2020-08-14 13:41:15 DİYARBAKIR -  İbrahim Çiçek, who was elected Yenişehir Municipality Co-mayor in the 31 March local elections, was arrested by the court with the accusation of 'being a member of an illegal organization'. İbrahim Çiçek who was replaced by a trustee with the decision of the Ministry of Interrior on November 13, 2019, was detained by the police and arrested by the court shortly after.   Cicek, who was dismissed from his post with the Statutory Decree while working as a teacher, was the mayor candidate of HDP in Yenişehir district. He wasn't granted his election certificate on grounds that he was formerly dismissed from his job with a law decree after the coup attempt.   According to the information obtained, Çiçek was detained on the grounds that he participated in the marches organized by the Education and Science Workers Union (Eğitim Sen) in 2015 and was a delegate of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK).   Çiçek was taken to the Diyarbakır Courthouse after being processed at the police station and was arrested for his union activity and DTK membership, with the accusation of 'being a member of an illegal organization'.
